Southern Fried Diary

Leaving on a jet plane
2003-02-14 @ 1:03 p.m.

This afternoon I leave for South America. Unfortunately my baby is still sick. I hate to leave her like this. I hate to think about her going to bed alone tonight feeling as lousy as she does. She is getting better. But she was in such bad shape that even getting better she still feels like crap sometimes. I know the girls will take good care of her, but I wish I could be here to do it myself.

I must admit, however, that I am also looking forward to this trip. I am looking forward to seeing new countries and cities, new cultures to me. I'm looking forward to a bit of summertime in the middle of February. I'm looking forward to lots of good food and good wine, and especially to new types of good food, food adventures.

Jake and I have been reconnecting in wonderful ways and I will miss getting to continue with that into next week. But she will still be here when I get back.

I also wanted to tell you that I am reading the best book I've ever read about childhood sexual abuse and adult sexuality. It's called "The Survivor's Guide to Sex," by Staci Haines. I found it in the Blowfish catalog (www.blowfish.com) but I'm sure it's available everywhere. I just like to support Blowfish (great on-line site for porn and sex toys) whenever I can. I've been going through the book quickly, like a sponge soaking up water or like a thirsty woman in need of quenching. Bad is going to read it while I'm gone and Jake has expressed an interest in reading. I highly recommend it to anyone who has lived through childhood sexual abuse and wants to be a fully functioning sexual adult. It is supportive of whatever sexual lifestyle you want to chose, from polyamory and S/M if you swing that way to vanilla monogamy and whatever's in between.
