Early Morning Spitting
2002-06-20 @ 11:18 a.m.

Started my day first thing - 10 a.m. - looking at 14 bottles of wine to taste. We're not talking simple, fruity California breakfast wines either. We're talking about challenging crisp, minerally white Burgundies and earthy, barnyardy, stinky feet red Burgundies. Most of them good wines, but at 10 a.m.? One of the whites would cost our customers about $200 a bottle, and it was the least impressive of the line-up. It will probably taste better after it's been open a while. But I still wouldn't pay $200 for a bottle.

Then, immediately behind the Burgundies, we had a winery rep from an Italian winery waiting in the wings to taste us on four more bottles. At 10 a.m. with this much wine, we definately use a spit bucket.

Interesting way to start the day, especially for those whose mouths still taste like coffee or toothpaste.

Have a good day!
